WE’RE HIRING! Program Lead – Kenora
Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator and Library CEO/Head Librarian at the City of Kenora Public Library, the Digital Creator Program Lead will be responsible for coordinating and executing the Digital Creator North project in Kenora, Ontario. The project offers structured and unstructured learning environments in digital and media arts for youth and emerging artists. Program Leads will be required to create a welcoming space and develop responsive media arts programming for their community.
Sioux Lookout Blooms in Time for Summer
When a crew of regular High School Students left to grab some dinner & then came back with it, I knew they had settled into the Lounge! They often organize their own social every Wednesday, inviting different people over & showing first timers around with a sense of pride in “their Space”. They throw on their own tunes, duke it out in Smash bros, play the uke, enjoy some VR, GarageBand & Digital Art, and recently the 3D Printer! They are a very social and friendly crew, who always include others in the room in their tournaments, even the 11-13 year olds, leaving me with a warm fuzzy heart. I love hearing the laughter fill up the place. These guys fill the Space with enthusiasm, which often lures curious bystanders into the Digital “web”! And that is only one example of how Digital Creator is making an impact in Sioux Lookout!
Hannah Ciacco: Sault Ste. Marie’s New Program Lead
After graduating from Fanshawe College with a degree in General Arts and Science, Hannah Caicco quickly discovered her passion for literature and Indigenous history. She went on to complete an Honours Double Major in English and History from Algoma University. During her studies Hannah worked closely with the Shingwauk Hall Archives to successfully complete her honours thesis on the Gendered Experiences of Residential School Students.

Working from our head office in North Bay and reporting to the Executive Director, the Program Coordinator will work closely with six partner communities across Northern Ontario to oversee the success of the Digital Creator North project. The Program Coordinator will be integral in delivering project outcomes, helping to establish the program’s longevity and will be a main contact for communities for troubleshooting, reporting, and evaluation.
Art Heals Too
Being creative has always been a positive outlet of expression for me. At times it was the only way I knew how to express myself that made sense to me, especially during chronic depression. I discovered that art was more than pretty images, but a language that spoke more than words, even if I was the only one who understood it. Oftentimes I wouldn’t really know what I was creating until it was complete, and then it spoke to me, teaching me about myself, my life, or the world. And it mattered simply because I had taken time to make it, which I believe translated into “I matter”. I experienced art to be a simple & pure way to get back to a peaceful state of mind & to acquire a sense of self-worth. And other people enjoying my work was the ultimate, and I now get the most joy from making things for others.
