Organization Description:

The Near North Mobile Media Lab (N2M2L) is a non-profit artist-run centre that actively promotes media arts access by providing the tools and resources that media artists, emerging artists, and students in Northern Ontario need to produce, present, and enjoy all forms of contemporary media art. N2M2L runs the Digital Creator program to give youth access to digital and media technology.


Position Overview:

Digital Creator North Bay is seeking a dynamic and creative Programming Facilitator Intern to join our team. Digital Creator North Bay is a free, low-barrier, safer space where youth can drop in, be creative and have fun. As the facilitator of this transformative learning space, the intern will play a key role in empowering youth aged 11-19 through hands-on workshops, mentorship, and access to industry-standard equipment. This full-time, one-year contract position is designed to foster skills in technology, media, and digital innovation in Northern Ontario while maintaining a safe and fun atmosphere for youth.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Creative Learning Environment: Establish and maintain a safe, welcoming, and supportive space for all participants.
  • Program Design: Develop interest-based programming that responds to the expressed interests of the youth.
  • Workshop Facilitation: Lead digital media open-studio sessions and youth workshops in areas such as filmmaking, editing, photography, animation, and graphic design.
  • One-on-One Mentorship: Provide personalized guidance to youth on their individual digital and media arts projects.
  • Feedback and Evaluation: Collect data through feedback and surveys to ensure the program meets its objectives.
  • Youth Engagement: Collaborate with the Youth Advisory Committee to ensure youth have an active voice in the program’s design and direction.
  • Space and Equipment Management: Maintain the Digital Creator space; Maintain, update, and evaluate software and equipment to ensure accessibility and functionality for all activities.
  • Community Connections: Develop and strengthen connections with local organizations to support collective community building.
  • Outreach and Workshops: Occasionally facilitate workshops for community organizations, groups, and adults to extend the program’s reach.
  • Public Relations: Respond to inquiries about Digital Creator North from the general public and maintain an active presence through social media, blogs, behind-the-scenes documentation, and event postings.
  • Marketing and Advertising: Promote and advertise the free Digital Creator North Bay program to increase participation and visibility.


Qualifications:

  • A passion for technology, media, and digital arts;
  • Strong communication and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Knowledge of video, audio and photography equipment; 
  • Familiarity with basic digital video editing software;
  • Knowledge of digital drawing and animation software;
  • Familiarity with 3D printing and software is an asset;
  • Experience in facilitating workshops, especially with youth is an asset.


Requirements:

Please Note: This position is supported by the NOHFC’s People & Talent – Indigenous Workforce Program. The successful applicant must meet the following requirements:

  • identifies as an Indigenous person, including First Nation, Metis, or Inuit.
  • has not previously participated in NOHFC’s People & Talent Program;
  • is at least 18 years of age;
  • is either a new entrant into the workforce, is transitioning to a new career, or
  • is unemployed or underemployed and is entering a new field;
  • resides in Northern Ontario;
  • is legally entitled to work in Canada;
  • must be able to work shift work hours to accommodate 7pm closure on Tues/Wed/Thurs.
