Digital Creator North Bay is hosting two incredible stop motion workshops with our amazing artist in residence, Lily Zhang!
Basics in Claymation!
November 30th, 1-4pm
Location: Digital Creator North Bay, located in lower level of The Capitol Centre
Cost: $10 materials fee
Let’s make some fun animations using clay! In this workshop, learn the basics in animation to create your own fun scenes and characters! Once done, learn to finish up your animations using some fun digital skills by learning to edit out a green screen to place your animation in some fun backgrounds!
In this workshop, we will work on learning the basics in animation which include the importance of timing and performance while using clay. We will begin the workshop by teaching the students to make a small figure, with this figure they will try to make them wave convincingly before the camera. Once they have completed the simple wave, they will be allowed to freely edit their figures in any way they wish and make their own personalized animations in front of the greenscreen. When their animations are complete we will edit out the greenscreen together to then place their characters in whatever environments they choose!
Puppet Making 101!
December 7th, 1-4pm
Location: Digital Creator North Bay, located in lower level of The Capitol Centre
Cost: $10 materials fee
Let’s make a fun animation ready puppet! Learn how to design and make an appealing stop motion ready puppet!
In this workshop, we will work on creating an appealing stop motion ready puppet! We will begin by allowing the students to design their own puppet and help them create something that will withstand the pressures of stop motion animation. Once they have finished, we will teach them to create a basic aluminum wire armature following closely to their design with a live demonstration. When the armature is completed, the students will be more free in finishing their puppet by sculpting their heads and adding details in the hands, feet, hair, and clothing.
Instructor for both Workshops:
Lily Zhang is a stop motion animator and puppet maker, known for creating whimsical, emotionally rich stories. She draws inspiration from her cultural background and a love for the fantastical, aiming to tell unique stories with magical characters and abstract settings. Lily’s recent short film, Though the Attic’s Eye, explores overcoming fears and taking a leap of faith into the unknown.
