Organization Description:

The Near North Mobile Media Lab actively promotes media arts access for all artists regardless of age, class, gender, sexual orientation, gender expression, race, or ability. We provide the tools that artists, students, and audiences in Northern Ontario need to produce, present, and enjoy all forms of contemporary media art. We envision a thriving media arts community in Northern Ontario that produces innovative work, has access to contemporary presentations, and is an active participant in a national discourse by overcoming regional limitations.


Project Description:

The Digital Creator North project, offered by the Near North Mobile Media Lab, has established low-barrier media arts-based creator spaces for youth (aged 14-19) in six partner communities across Northern Ontario. These spaces operate as drop-in, out-of-school learning environments for youth to develop skills in digital media using a participatory culture model. These spaces inspire creative experimentation, peer networking/collaboration, civic engagement, and hands-on learning using various media arts disciplines. These disciplines include video production, audio recording, 3D printing, graphic design, and coding/programming. This project aims to have a positive cultural impact on Northern Ontario by increasing participation in the media arts sector in six small to mid-sized communities. As of June 1st 2019, the Digital Creator North program has been expanding to serve all age demographics.


Job Description:

Working from our head office in North Bay and reporting to the Executive Director, the Program Coordinator will work closely with six partner communities across Northern Ontario to oversee the success of the Digital Creator North project. The Program Coordinator will be integral in delivering project outcomes, helping to establish the program’s longevity and will be a main contact for communities for troubleshooting, reporting, and evaluation.


Duties:

  • Grant writing and liaising with various stakeholders to ensure program sustainability and continuation
  • Collect data from each community for program development and evaluatio
  • Manage and lead a team of six off-site Program Leads
  • Facilitate biweekly one on one meetings with Program Leads
  • Facilitate monthly team meetings
  • Develop and introduce new procedures and strategies that evolve with the growing needs of a pilot project
  • Facilitate a training program that includes remote workshop modules for staff
  • Assist in developing adaptive programming for youth that responds to the unique and changing needs of each community
  • Assist in maintaining online peer networks for Digital Creator participants, using social media platforms and websites
  • Respond to questions about Digital Creator North via phone and email from the general public
  • Set up meetings and conference calls with community partners and stakeholders
  • Travel to partner communities once a year (up to 10 days/year) for site visitS
  • Oversee and manage the opening of two new Digital Creator North Spaces in confirmed partner communities


Core Requirements:

  • Ability to work independently and to work within defined timelines
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Well organized, self-starter who is attentive to detail
  • Out-of-the-box thinker with creative problem solving skills
  • Self-motivated to learn and research new models and methods


Additional requirements:

  • Degree or diploma in Media Arts, Community Development, Non-Profit Administration, Education or related field
  • Experience in any related field
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and technologically current with web-based platforms and social media
  • Personal interest or active artistic practice in a digital media discipline is an asset
  • Previous working experience with teen/young adults in an education setting is an asset
  • Understanding of artist-run culture an asset
